SOLD OUT // Elegy

Durkó 90

The Film Club of the Transparent Sound New Music Festival pays tribute to Zsolt Durkó (1934-1997), who was born 90 years ago. The composer’s career, which began in the early 1960s and quickly earned international acclaim, includes several works for theater and film. Undoubtedly, one of the most significant among them is the short film titled “Elegy,” directed by Zoltán Huszárik (1931-1981) in 1965. Marcell Dargay, the composer, not only delves into the unique logic of the film’s music and editing technique but also attempts to outline the film tradition/environment into which “Elegy” burst onto the scene in the mid-1960s. Throughout the evening, excerpts from Durkó’s other compositions will be presented, and glimpses into scenes from Hungarian films that either precede or possibly follow Huszárik’s timeless classic will also be provided.

Admission to the program is free, but registration is required, and we can accommodate a maximum of 80 attendees for the screening. Registration can be done by emailing papp.krisztina@bmc.hu until 12:00 on January 15, 2024. We will send confirmation or rejection emails for both successful and unsuccessful registrations.
