SOLD OUT // ONCE WITHIN A TIME

Filmklub: Godfrey Reggio & Philip Glass

This year, the festival’s film club programme includes a new pre-release screening of a new work by two iconic American artists. The latest collaboration between Godfrey Reggio, 84, and Philipp Glass, two years his senior, is a unique independent music film, a bardic fairy tale about the end of the world and the beginning of a new one. An apocalyptic comedy, with magical cinematography, unforgettable images and the innocence and hopes of a new generation. The two artists’ collaborations in Hungary are best known for the 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi and the other films in the Qatsi trilogy.

Before the screening, we talk to the director, who joins us online, and Tara Khozein, who is both playing in the movie as actor, and performer of the sound track as soprano.

Admission to the program is free, but registration is required, and we can accommodate a maximum of 80 attendees for the screening. Registration can be done by emailing papp.krisztina@bmc.hu until 12:00 on January 22, 2024. We will send confirmation or rejection emails for both successful and unsuccessful registrations.

“Both technical feat and techno-pessimist fable, this strange brew brims with apocalyptic unease.”
— William Repass, Slant

“Outrageously funny. Mesmerizing and provocative to behold while transcending beyond words.”
 — Avi Offer, NYC Movie Guru

“Once Within A Time” is the product of a ferociously creative hive mind, at whose apex sits an Old Testament prophet furiously warning us of the apocalypse at hand.”
— Ty Burr, Ty Burr’s Watch List
