Tamás Schlanger and the Sonus Cordis Quartet Concert

The Sonus Cordis Quartet was formed in 2019 by the Artisjus Award-winning violinist Eszter Krulik and violinist Róza Lachegyi. Known for their focus on contemporary music and improvisation, the ensemble actively collaborates with composers from different generations, regularly performing new works. They proudly boast dozens of premieres each year and are present at all major concert venues in Budapest, including Müpa, the Liszt Academy, the BMC, and Fuga.
The Sonus Cordis Days, a chamber music and improvisation course, will be held for the fifth time in August 2025 at the picturesque Szent András Castle in Tolna County. Another highly popular project is their Intensive Orchestral Days, which takes place every November at the Váci Conservatory for string students. In the 2023/24 season, they also organized a series called Impro Workshop at ISON, aimed at young musicians, with guest artists participating. Since 2024, the quartet has been collaborating with percussionist Tamás Schlanger.
At the Átlátszó Hang New Music Festival, the quartet will present the Hungarian premiere of American composer Andy Akiho’s large-scale marimba quintet, LIgnEouS. The program will also feature Timelapse by Viktor Molnár, a work for marimba and strings that won second prize at the Generace 2023 Composition Competition (Czech Republik). Additionally, there will be performances of Tamás Schlanger’s arrangements for marimba and string trio of Messiaen’s solo piano works. The concert will also include excerpts from Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata, arranged by Schlanger.
