Initiated a decade ago by Ferenczy Noémi Award laureate textile artist Szilvia Szigeti, and organised and directed in collaboration with interior designer Tamás Radnóti, the TEXHIBITION project was created in conjunction with the international design exhibition Design Without Borders. Its main aim is to raise awareness of textile designers and the creative and manufacturing potential of the genre.
The exhibition consists of three parts.
The Polish section of the exhibition will preview one of the focal themes of the 21st Design Without Borders exhibition in the autumn, the presentation of Polish designers, giving a taste of the works of Polish textile designers. This selection includes the unique woven textiles of Łódź-born, Delft-based, internationally acclaimed and innovative textile designer Aleksandra Gaca, who pushes the boundaries of the genre; the works of the teachers, former and current students of ASP Łódź, Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Institute of Textile, Printing and Interior Decoration; the line-based geometric abstract prints of Piotr Skowron, originally a technical graduate who is also a teacher at ASP Łódź; the custom printed textiles of three current students – Agata Szostak, Katarzyna Glińska-Hyclak and Marta Chrobak; of the emerging designers, the strikingly textured structured jacquard fabrics of Zuzanna Wójcik; hand-printed textiles by illustrator and graphic designer Paulina Sołtyszewska; and the screen-printed works inspired by the legacy of Le Corbusier by Falbanka Studio, created by Julia Cybis and Izabela Sroka.

The second part is a thematic series based on musical inspirations, which is an integral continuation of the 2023 TEXHIBITION project realised on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of György Ligeti’s birth. Eleven textile artists designed digitally printed works for the composer’s 11-movement piano cycle Musica Ricercata.
This year, twenty textile artists also created digitally printed textiles inspired by the CentriFUGA production of the Transparent Sound New Music Festival. Eight composers participated in the project, creating different music flows, which were visually mapped by the textile artists. The same-size textile modules, placed side by side in the exhibition, have pre-defined graphic points at different heights on each edge; between these the designers were free to create creative reflections on the style of the chosen composers or on a specific piece of music. Although the series is made up of individual units, their combination creates a ‘visual melody line’ between the black dots, reminiscent of a sheet music score. The works providing the inspiration will be performed as a “stream of music” in the exhibition’s finissage, providing a unique sound experience. The collaborative creative process fits perfectly with the organisers’ intention to combine visual and performing arts, demonstrating the productive interaction between the two.

In the third block of the exhibition, guests will be able to see a representative selection of textiles produced over the past 10 years, including custom pieces as well as materials made using various industrial techniques.
In the spirit of the all-arts experience, the exhibition programme will be enriched by curatorial guided tours, professional lectures and contemporary music concerts.
The event takes place in the framework of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Supported by National Cultural Fund of Hungary and Polish Institute in Budapest.
